Optus extends mobile coverage in Central West NSW
21 Apr 2004

Optus has extended its mobile coverage again in the Central West region, following the installation of a new mobile tower at Wongarbon.

Allen Lew, Managing Director Optus Mobile, said Optus was focused on enhancing and extending its mobile coverage in regional towns and along important highways.

"The objective of the new site was to enhance coverage along the Mitchell Highway between Dubbo and Geurie. Coverage now extends from the intersection of the Mitchell Highway and Eulomogo Road, all the way down toward Geurie, including the Wongarbon township.

"We are confident people living, working and travelling in the area will now enjoy good signal levels - in fact, we are so confident that we offer a Coverage Satisfaction Guarantee," Mr Lew said.

Local Optus dealer Daniel Naveau, Manager of Network Communications Dubbo, said the Wongarbon site would complement recent new coverage in Cobar, Bourke, Lightning Ridge, Mogriguy, Narromine, Nyngan, Trangie, and Warren.

"Optus is committed to improving its coverage in regional areas, ensuring healthy competition remains strong in the bush. Additional new sites are planned in Gulgong Town North and Mount Coonambro in coming months.

"Residents, business people and travellers in the area now have a greater choice of GSM mobile network as a result of improved coverage," Mr Naveau said.

Optus has built more than 700 sites across New South Wales during the past four years, and its GSM mobile network provides coverage to 95% of the state’s population.
