Optus has significantly improved its mobile coverage in the Central Highlands, following the installation of eleven new mobile facilities in the region.
Allen Lew, Managing Director Optus Mobile, said Optus was focused on enhancing and extending its mobile coverage in regional towns and along important roadways.
"Optus is expanding its mobile coverage across 25,000 square kilometres of the Central Highlands region over the next year, building upon its extensive network along the Queensland coast.
"Already, eleven new mobile facilities have been installed in Blackwater South, Capella, Collinsville, Comet, Dingo, Edungalba, Moranbah East, Mount Benn, Sapphire, South West Sarina and Tieri.
"The objective of the new sites was to provide maximum coverage to the surrounding townships, and improve signal strength along major roads like the Capricorn and Peak Downs Highways," Mr Lew said.
Manger of Optus World Rockhampton, Teegan Seng, said the new sites mean customers now have a greater choice of GSM network.
"The new coverage complements Optus’ existing sites in the region in Blackwater, Biloela, Calliope, Clermont, Dysart, Emerald, Middlemount, Moranbah, and Moranbah North.
"Residents, businesses and travellers in the region can now enjoy the benefits of Optus’ expanded GSM mobile network coverage, and Coverage Satisfaction Guarantee," Ms Seng said.
Optus has built more than 200 mobile sites in Queensland during the past four years.
Optus recommends customers use car kits whilst driving, to maximise coverage levels and safety.
