20 Dec 2004

Optus today announced a further boost to its GSM network coverage in regional Queensland with the installation of mobile facilities in the Moura township.

Allen Lew, Managing Director Optus Mobile said, "The installation of the mobile facilities has improved and extended mobile coverage throughout the Moura township and the immediate surrounds, providing greater access for people working and living in the area.

"Optus is continuing to boost network coverage in regional Queensland with the extension of coverage across a number of regional areas including Binjour, Mount Benn, Theodore and Monto. With this new base station we now have 673 base stations in the state of Queensland covering 96 per cent of the population.

"Optus GSM is strong in the bush and we will continue to invest in additional sites," he said.

Mark Williamson, Optus General Manager, QLD said, "The new mobile facility in Moura, complements Optus' plans to extend coverage to surrounding areas such as Taroom and Wandoan in coming months, expanding the GSM network coverage across the state."

This coverage expansion is part of the Optus strategy to provide the largest GSM network on the east coast of Australia.
