Optus has improved mobile competition in the region, following the installation of a new mobile tower in Cloncurry.
Allen Lew, Managing Director Optus Mobile, said Optus was focused on enhancing and extending its mobile coverage in regional towns and along important roadways.
"Cloncurry has benefited from the commitment we made last year to build an additional 80 base stations in Queensland.
"The objective of the new site in Cloncurry was to provide quality coverage to the township, and maximise coverage along the Flinders and Matilda Highways, as they approach the town.
"We are confident people living, working and travelling in the region will now enjoy good signal levels, which is why we are offering a Coverage Satisfaction Guarantee," Mr Lew said.
Local Optus dealer, Mike Elder, Manager of Network Communications Mt Isa, said the new site would provide customers with a greater choice of GSM mobile network.
"The new tower was built with high power antennae to maximise coverage, which means residents and businesses in Cloncurry can now enjoy the benefits of competition when choosing a GSM mobile network," Mr Elder said.
Optus has built more than 200 mobile sites in Queensland during the past four years.
