Optus has brought mobile coverage to Anna Bay, following the installation of a new mobile base station.
Allen Lew, Managing Director Optus Mobile, said Optus was focused on enhancing and extending its global system for mobile (GSM) coverage in the wider Hunter region.
"Optus is pleased to be the first to offer mobile coverage to Anna Bay. The objective of the new site at Anna Bay was to provide coverage to the township and surrounding areas.
"This is the result of a wider investment in extending our mobile coverage in the Hunter region.
"Over the last four years, Optus has invested more than $10 million dollars, and built more than 35 mobile sites across the region. Last month we announced an additional $5 million dollar investment for the next two years. This means coverage - and competition in mobile services - will continue to increase for residents, businesses and visitors to the region," Mr Lew said.
Local Optus dealer, Richard Goodall from the Mobile Phone Service Centre Hamilton, said Optus plans to further improve its mobile coverage to provide more competition in mobile services.
"Optus plans to build new sites in Bobs Farm, Corlette, Fingal Bay, Hawks Nest East, Mallabulla, Medowie South, and Soldiers Point over the next twelve months.
"Residents, business people and travellers along the coast can now enjoy the benefits of increased competition in mobile services, as a result of improved coverage," Mr Goodall said.
Optus' GSM mobile network already provides coverage to 96% of the New South Wales population.
