Optus is providing improved mobile coverage on the Newell Highway between Dubbo and Parkes with new mobile base stations at Mundeadjong Peak and Ten Mile Holes.
Local Network Communications store owner Darren Germon said, Optus understood the need for better coverage in major towns like Dubbo and Parkes and was 'raising the bar' for its customers living, working or visiting in these areas.
"Dubbo is a popular half way break when travelling on the Newell Highway between Melbourne and Brisbane. It's also a major tourist destination with the attraction of the Western Plains Zoo. The additional coverage will be welcomed by mobile users in Western NSW," he said.
"Optus coverage isn't only about where you can use your mobile, but also the quality of the calls you make including while travelling on the highway. People can maximise their mobile coverage by installing a car kit with an external antenna."
"Other areas that will benefit from the better coverage are parts of the Mitchell Highway between Narromine and Dubbo, the Peak Hill road; and further south towards Parkes along the Newell Highway including the town of Tomingley," Mr Germon said.
Optus plans to continue to improve coverage to the region with another new base station scheduled for this year at Mickbri, which will ensure coverage along the Newell Highway to Parkes.
In addition, new sites will be progressively rolled out from February at Narromine, Warren, Trangie, Nyngan, Cobar and Bourke.
