Optus is providing additional mobile coverage in Muswellbrook following the installation of a mobile base station on an existing telecommunications structure in town.

Allen Lew, Managing Director Optus Mobile, said the Muswellbrook site extends the breadth of Optus' GSM mobile coverage.

"Muswellbrook is an important regional business centre and improving mobile coverage was a key priority for Optus.

"The Muswellbrook site has been designed to provide greatly enhanced mobile coverage to the township and capacity relief to Optus' existing site at Mt Arthur.

"Optus is committed to bringing real competition to regional NSW and offering some mobile customers a choice of GSM network for the first time. The Muswellbrook site complements another recent site in the area in Denman," Mr Lew said.

Optus has plans to build base station sites in Merriwa, Scone CBD and the power station in Liddell over the next few months.
