Optus delivers mobile coverage to Coober Pedy
10 Oct 2003

Optus is fulfilling its promise of more mobile coverage in South Australia with the recent installation of a base station at Coober Pedy.

The 45 metre base station provides improved coverage to the township and surrounding area. The coverage also extends along the roads heading out of town.

Optus' South Australian State Manager, Harvey Marcus, said Optus was working towards improving mobile coverage in rural and regional South Australia.

"As the largest opal mining town in Australia, Coober Pedy is an important business centre in the region. It is also a popular tourist destination with many people visiting on their way to the Red Centre.

"Improving mobile coverage and providing consumers with a choice of mobile carrier in this area was a high priority for Optus," Mr Marcus said.

Optus plans to build additional sites in Roxby Downs and Woomera over the next six months.

"Optus' mobile network covers 95 per cent of South Australia's population and more than 30 per cent of its land mass, Mr Marcus said.
