Optus today announced it had more than five million mobile GSM subscribers following the release of its September quarter subscriber numbers.
Mr Allen Lew, Managing Director, Optus Mobile said he was very pleased with the result which represented a 17 per cent increase from 12 months ago.
"The achievement of this important milestone is a powerful demonstration that Optus is one of the most significant service providers to Australian consumers and businesses - in any industry.
"In a little more than ten years, Optus has become a ubiquitous part of the Australian landscape, trusted by one in four Australians to provide them with mobile communications services.
"This is an outstanding achievement given the competitiveness of the Australian mobile market.

Optus has added 185,000 customers in the last quarter and has an approximate market share of 34 per cent.
