Optus today, launched its XYZed Voice over DSL (VoDSL) product enabling carriers and communications businesses to provide affordable access to the broadband market.
This product offers XYZed customers the technology to turn an existing telephone line into a multiple line for voice and high-speed data connection.
"XYZed customers will benefit by having the capability to offer their customers VoDSL - they can resell the technology and potentially offer additional voice and data services without having to build or house more infrastructure," said David Rampa, Director Optus Wholesale & XYZed.
"The XYZed network will continue to grow and offer bundled solutions to wholesale customers. The VoDSL option puts an end to the 'last mile' problem and opens up access for a voice and data end-to-end service," Mr Rampa said.
Since launching XYZed in 2000, the wholesale broadband access market has increased by more than 105 per cent.
The XYZed network provides comprehensive coverage of capital cities and key metropolitan and regional areas of Australia. The services are available to approximately 75 per cent of businesses in 105 exchange-based areas.

DSL
- Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) technology enables existing copper telephone lines to support high-speed broadband data and voice transmission supporting a range of feature-rich services not available over the standard public switch telephone network (PSTN).
- The copper wires have plenty of bandwidth for carrying data in addition to voice conversations as voice signals use only a fraction of the available capacity. DSL exploits this remaining capacity to carry information without disturbing the line's ability to carry conversations.
VoDSL
- Voice over Digital Subscriber Line (VoDSL) enables the carriage of existing standard analogue voice services and data services over a DSL network.
- VoDSL allows multiple phone lines to be combined into a single phone line that also includes data transmission capabilities.
