Optus continues north with improved mobile coverage
24 Jun 2002

Residents and visitors to Northern New South Wales will enjoy improved Optus mobile coverage along the Pacific Highway, north of Ballina and south of the Bangalow turnoff.

Local Lismore Optus World store owner John Welch said Optus is progressively improving its mobile coverage with the installation of a new base station in Knockrow. The new site will increase coverage in an area known for its low mobile coverage.

"People using mobiles for business or pleasure will also enjoy better coverage between Maclean and Woodburn along the Pacific Highway because of the recent upgrade to the base station near Mororo State Forest." he said.

"Optus has been concentrating on improving mobile coverage to areas in Northern New South Wales. Last year, three new base station were installed in South Lismore, Ballina East and Byron Bay CBD," Mr Welch said.

In addition, Optus is about to begin work on a new base station in Yamba.

"To maximise coverage, mobile user's should install a car kit with an external antenna. As well as coverage gains, we want to encourage safe driving with the use of hands free devices," said Welch.

With more than 4 million mobile customers, a third of the nation's mobile users are on the Optus network.
