Improved Optus coverage in the Hunter Valley
07 May 2002

Residents and visitors to the popular NSW wine region, the Hunter Valley can now enjoy better Optus mobile coverage thanks to two new base stations which were recently installed at Beresfield North and Maitland South.

Local Optus World store owner Richard Cavill, said Optus is committed to improving the reach and quality of its mobile service to the Hunter Valley region.

"Residents and visitors will notice enhanced Optus mobile coverage and better call quality on the New England Highway between Maitland and Tarro. People will also notice an improvement in the surrounding residential and industrial areas of Thornton," he said.

Optus has been concentrating on improving mobile coverage to the Hunter Valley and surrounding areas and installed new base stations at Hawks Nest and Newcastle CBD as well as upgrading existing sites at Mt Sugarloaf and Wakefield with additional capacity

"Optus plans to continue to improve coverage along Nelson Bay Road between Nelson Bay and Newcastle and upgrade existing sites along the Pacific Highway between Karuah and Buladelah to provide better quality calls while on the highway.

At Optus, coverage isn't only about where you can use your mobile, but also the quality of the calls you make and ensuring calls won't drop out," Mr Cavill said.

With more than 4 million mobile customers, a third of the nation's mobile users are on the Optus network.
