OptusNet fastest growing ISP
12 Feb 2001

Cable & Wireless Optus announced today that it had more than 300,000 dial-up internet customers confirming OptusNet as the fastest growing subscription-based and the third largest ISP in Australia.

Adrian Chamberlain, Managing Director Consumer & Multimedia, Cable & Wireless Optus, said the strong growth reflected the success of the company's focus on customer friendly product bundles and innovative marketing.

"Bundling not only brings in customers, it brings in high value customers.

"Our focus on packaging together internet, pay TV, telephony and mobile is reaping rewards as customers switch-on to the choice, convenience and savings," said Mr Chamberlain.

"This strategy has been particularly successful in bringing higher value customers and in maintaining customer loyalty.

"In the last six months we've put on more than 75,000 customers and our churn rate has dropped by 27 per cent. This is an outstanding performance in a highly competitive market."

Mr Chamberlain said OptusNet is continuing to drive innovation in the market and lead with exciting content and deals for its customers.

"For example, our 'Dollar for Dollar Deal', where we offered gift vouchers to shop online with leading e-tailers, was a great success in delighting our customers and giving them a compelling reason to start shopping via the internet," he said.

"OptusNet unlocks the potential of the web for our customers.

"We are also the only major subscription based ISP that has no monthly download or session limits on any of our consumer pricing plans. Net savvy customers see better value and honesty in our offers and are thanking us with their custom," said Mr Chamberlain.

OptusNet has over 60 points of presence (POPs) around Australia and its superior, reliable network offers 24x7 customer and technical support. OptusNet plans are simple, family friendly and cater for a range of users from beginners to advanced.
