Optus signs wholesale mobile deal with People Telecom
16 Mar 2001

Optus and new telecommunications company, people telecom, have signed an exclusive wholesale deal to resell Optus' GSM mobile phones services.

Allan Robertson, General Manager Wholesale, Optus said the deal with people telecom was another win for Optus Mobile.

"We have a strong wholesale strategy which provides a range of choices to Australian mobile users," he said.

"We are delighted that people telecom have come on board to join other leading brands on our network including Virgin Mobile, B Digital, Austar and AGL," Mr Robertson said.

As part of the deal, people telecom's customers will gain immediate access to Optus' national GSM network and will acquire the customer base of mobile service provider Oxygen.

Ryan O'Hare, Chief Executive Officer, people telecom said, he was excited by the opportunity to build a new telco brand for Australian consumers.

"We've hit the ground running, quickly acquiring both a network partner and customers.

"We believe we have a unique customer-service based proposition that will appeal to the mobile-savvy small-to-medium sized business user," Mr O'Hare said.

"In addition, we look forward to delivering our enhanced content services for our wireless customers," he said.
