Cable & Wireless Optus today confirmed it has signed a wholesale mobile deal for Austar to resell Optus' GSM mobile phone services in regional Australia.

The deal formalises the announcement in May this year that Austar and Optus had entered into a Memorandum of Understanding.

According to Gerard Frack, Director Wholesale & Consumer, Cable & Wireless Optus, "This deal represents another major achievement in our mobile wholesale strategy. We look forward to a successful relationship in the Australian mobile market."

The arrangement will see Austar's brand and sales capabilities combined with Optus' network reliability and innovative leadership position in the mobile market.
