'Web in a box' solution for small business
13 Oct 1999

Cable & Wireless Optus today launched a simple solution for small businesses wanting a presence on the Internet called 'web in a box'.

Donna Lachance, Cable & Wireless Optus' Director Multimedia, said small businesses would benefit from Cable & Wireless Optus joining with Australian Windows Publishing's (AWP) ezimerchant software to create an 'off the shelf' product.

"Putting your business on the web need not be complicated. You don't have to be a huge company to take advantage of what is rapidly becoming the greatest marketplace in the world.

"With this product, Optus and AWP will ensure companies have an e-commerce web site up and running quickly - allowing them to sell their products and services to Australia and the rest of the world through a storefront open 24 hours a day, seven days a week," Ms Lachance said.

"Our 'web in a box' ezimerchant solution takes all the worry away from small businesses trying to have a web presence. It's simple to set up, there is help desk and design support if required, and for only $1.00 a day a business can maintain a professional web presence which from day one allows them to sell on the Internet," she said.

Kerry Plowright, Managing Director of AWP said ezimerchant would provide small business with the ideal web solution.

"The ezimerchant product takes away all the worry about complicated software, hardware and expertise associated with the Internet. It provides a low risk and completely secure solution that takes orders over the net and allows for secure payments from credit cards.

"Ezimerchant utilises the most advanced cryptography and security measures to protect customer information. Through the product's Secure Server, clients will receive protection many times greater than experienced in normal everyday transactions.

"Only the business and customer will be able to view an order, making the process of shopping on the Internet easy and safe," Mr Plowright said.

Ezimerchant will retail from $149 and is available from Harvey Norman, Myer, Grace Bros and Optus World stores. An initial special offer for Ezimerchant will make 50 hours of access to the web free as well as providing the first month of web hosting at no cost.

Domain registration will cost $150 for two years and web hosting will cost $100 for the initial setup, and from the second month will cost $40 per month.
