Optus is providing youth with a valuable service so they can get the help they need. Young people aged between five and 25 years can make a free call to Kids Help Line on 1800 55 1800 (24x7). All calls made to Kids Help Line on any Optus mobile phone are free.
Optus has worked with Kids Help Line (KHL) since 1999, supporting the establishment of the world's first free real-time online counselling sessions held. Through our marketing activities we continue to raise awareness of KHL's telephone and online counselling.
During our relationship, Optus has helped raise more that $3,200,000. This money ensures KHL can continue to provide the community's youth with this valuable service.
KHL is staffed by nearly 100 paid, professionally trained and supervised counsellors. Callers and online clients have access to counsellors and can choose to chat to a male or female. Kids are able to call back or re-connect to the same counsellor as they work through their issues.
Empowerment and child centred practise are the principle values underpinning counselling at KHL. Empowerment involves helping each caller or online client to clarify their concerns, formulate opinions, and develop strategies for positive change.
As a leader in delivering innovative communications solutions for business, Optus is committed to expanding the service through facilitating grater interactivity between counsellors and young people online.
Optus' support of KHL extends over and above Optus' sponsorship commitment to raise funds - it includes staff involvement in the form of volunteering for fundraising activities. Additionally senior Optus executives sit on both the national and Victorian KHL boards.
