We are committed to positively contributing to community development through our community investments which involve our financial giving, people, products and services. Our focus is on assisting disengaged young people and building social inclusion. These investments help build social networks and increase participation within the community and family life, and helps leverage telecommunications capabilities to provide access to health and education services.
In 2009/10 our total community investment was $8.24 million, or close to one per cent of our operating revenue. Through our community investments and initiatives we provide financial and in-kind contributions, communications services, management expertise and staff involvement. Our retail stores are also involved in fundraising and facilitating customer donations to our major community partners.
Because providing sponsorship is an essential part of our business and reflects our commitment to giving back to the community, our partners are chosen only after a fair and thorough evaluation of the suitability of their proposal in line with our social responsibility commitments. This means that certain programs will not be eligible for sponsorship.
